M’CHIGEENG—Incumbent Ogimaa Linda Debassige was returned as chief of the M’Chigeeng First Nation in last week’s band council elections by a substantial margin. Ogimaa Debassige garnered 325 votes to challenger Adam Debassige’s 141 votes.
The 10 elected candidates were Albert Beaudin with 317 votes; incumbent Ray Corbiere with 291 votes; Dennis Corbiere with 236 votes; Grace Debassige with 233 votes; incumbent Henry Panamick Sr. with 226 votes; incumbent Howard Debassige with 225 votes; Jesse Beaudin with 213 votes; incumbent Thomas Hare with 206 votes; Daughness Migwans with 204 votes; and incumbent Forry Hare with 204 votes. Ms. Migwans is also a former band councillor returning to the table after taking a number of years off.
The results posted here were “unofficial” as of press time as they must be acknowledged by the band administration to become official and the band offices were closed Monday.
