LITTLE CURRENT—There are a small number of exceptional individuals whose contribution to every organization they belong to so transcend the mundane as to stand head and shoulders above the crowd. Foremost among those rarified ranks stands Linda Bowerman of Sheguiandah, and this past week Comrade Bowerman was recognized for her efforts on behalf of the Royal Canadian Legion Branch 177 Little Current in a ceremony during a branch meeting.
“Linda has 26 years of service on the Ladies Auxiliary,” said current President Debbie Menard. “She has held every position except president.”
President Menard went on to note that Comrade Bowerman joined Branch 177 16 years ago and has acted as liaison officer between the branch and the auxiliary and continues to sit as a member of both organizations.
Currently, Comrade Bowerman holds the position of branch secretary while also serving as the secretary-treasurer of the Manitoulin District Cenotaph committee.
“Linda has worked tirelessly all these years, fundraising, hosting dinners, luncheons and teas,” said Ms. Menard. “Most notable is her annual Valentine’s Dinner, which she personally fundraises for, organizes and hosts. She has been doing so for 15 years and this dinner alone raises $1,500 to $2,000 each year for the Legion and its endeavours.”
In addition to numerous Legion awards over the years, Comrade Bowerman was presented with a Queen’s Jubilee Medal by former Algoma-Manitoulin-Kapuskasing MP Brent St. Denis and the Governor General’s Caring Canadian Award by the Honourable David C. Onley, Lieutenant Governor of Canada.
“Branch 177 is very proud to have Linda as a member,” said President Menard. “Her efforts and dedication to the Legion is invaluable. She is the glue between the Legion and the community organizations that are non-profit. She is granted a Life Membership in recognition of her outstanding service and devotion to the purposes and objectives of the Legion.”
