REAWAKENING (written by Linda)

As a child I used to gladly awaken each morning, and as I’d walk downstairs, I recall on many occasions I’d spend time pondering as I’d gaze at the rising sun. “Why am I here?” “What am I to become in my lifetime?” “Where am I going to be in as many uncountable days from today?” This one question I’d ask and dismiss, “What is at the horizon?” In looking back this evening, I know now, I had always addressed my questions to the east, the directing way from which knowledge comes to the seeker. So in ending the except as I face the eastern darkness in front of me, I only feel thankful for all that I may have ever gained, and plenty of love for the ones who need it in their hearts. So, I sit here now in humility for losses of many good ways of the Anishnabe peoples. I pray and hope daily for the restoration of our original ancestors heartfelt ways and the guardian spirits to return amongst us and forever guide us to eternity, on the path of the sacred cycle of life.
