Letter to the Editor: Garden vandalism in Little Current disrespectful of volunteers

It takes a lot of work and time to create such wonderful flower displays

To the Expositor:

As one of the community gardeners for NEMI I need to make a comment to the individual(s) who removed many of the planted flowers from the garden beds downtown.

I was very upset with this act of vandalism.

It takes a lot of work and time to carry these flowers through their life cycle, from the original growers (greenhouses), to travelling to these places to purchase for the town and then plant them in prepared beds is only half the work.

Consider all the watering, grooming, and weeding that is needed to maintain these plants.

There is such beauty and colour during our short blooming season, and it is gratifying when the work is completed.

Somehow it lifts your spirits to see such glory and also helps the bees, birds and more. It transforms our waterfront.

This display of hard work is for all to enjoy, not destroy!

So to the individual(s) that did harm to this area I suggest you come along with one of us gardeners during our planting season and help us plant.

Walk a mile in our shoes and maybe you will feel anger when someone destroys your work or property, you may realize what you did was not right.

We will be monitoring the flowerbeds closely next year, hoping for no more incidents.

I hope the flowers you took survived.

Will now put the incident behind me and move on to next year’s display.
