Wikwemikong police respond to disturbance call
On April 13, at approximately 1:30 am, the Wikwemikong Tribal Police Service (WTPS) received a call of a disturbance at a residence in the main village area on the Wiikwemkoong Unceded Territory (WUT).
Officers arrived and spoke to the complainant who stated a female suspect became irate and began damaging the residence. The female suspect was advised to leave the premises to which she refused. The female was placed under arrest for trespassing/failure to leave.
Upon further investigation, it was revealed that the female suspect had also broken a window and damaged a door within the residence.
As a result of the incident, a 21-year-old female resident of Wiikwemkoong has been charged with one count of mischief under $5,000.
The accused is set to appear in Ontario Court of Justice, Wiikwemkoong on Tuesday May 28 at 10 am to answer to the charge.
Mischief incident being investigated
On Saturday, April 14, at approximately 5:20 pm, the WTPS received a mischief complaint in the Buzwah area on the Wiikwemkoong Unceded Territory.
Officers responded and located a vehicle that had been damaged, and a male suspect was attempting to gain entry into an apartment. The suspect managed to gain entry but was quickly located and placed under arrest by police.
Investigation revealed the suspect had damaged a parked motor vehicle and appeared to be under the influence of alcohol or drugs.
As a result of the incident, a 39-year-old male from Wiikwemkoong has been charged with two counts of mischief under $5,000 and is set to appear in Ontario Court of Justice, Wiikwemkoong on Tuesday, May 28 to answer to the charges.
The Wikwemikong Tribal Police Service responded to 51 calls for service during the weekend of April 12-15.
