Two youths arrested in theft of ATV
Little Current’s west end saw a rash of thefts over the weekend with an ATV stolen from Cherry Lane on Friday night, October 13.
Constable Marie Ford, communications officer with the Manitoulin OPP, told The Expositor that two male young offenders have been arrested in connection with the theft of the ATV, which was recovered.
A number of cars were also entered in the community and two bikes stolen from Cherry Street, which were recovered, and two bikes stolen from Blake Street, which are still outstanding.
The OPP Scenes of Crime unit attended and processed the scenes.
As off press time Monday, no charges have been laid in the bike thefts.
Operation Impact, saving lives
Between October 6, 2017 and October 9, 2017, members of the Manitoulin Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) were out enforcing various laws during Thanksgiving weekend.
The initiative aimed to make Canada’s roads the safest in the world by increasing awareness and compliance on the four behaviours that place drivers, passengers and other road users most at risk: impaired, distracted and aggressive driving as well as failure to wear seatbelts.
Motorists in the area were charged with the following offences: 49 speeding charges; one stunt/racing charge; six seatbelt violation charges; one distracted driving charge; and nine hazard moving violations.
The Manitoulin OPP also responded to 82 calls for service which included 12 Reduce Impaired Driving Everywhere (RIDE) initiatives.
The OPP would like to remind motorists to take the necessary precautions to arrive to their destination safely.
