Maamwi Naadamadaa ‘stuff the cruiser’ campaign a success
This year UCCM Anishnaabe Police partnered with United Chiefs and Councils of Mnidoo Mnising (UCCMM) service partners, also known as the Maamwi Naadamadaa ‘Let’s Work Together’ Group.
Recently the Maamwi Naadamadaa entered a friendly competition to see who could “stuff the cruiser” the most with non-perishable food and children’s toy donations by Monday, November 30. These donations were subsequently delivered to the Manitoulin Family Resources Centre in Mindemoya for distribution.
Each of the following organizations accepted donations and had drop off boxes located at their offices: Kina Gbezhgomi Child and Family Services, Kenjgewin Teg Educational Institute, Noojmowin Teg Health Centre and Mnaamodzawin Health Centre, Ojibway Cultural Foundation, United Chiefs and Councils of Mnidoo Mnising and UCCM Anishnaabe Police Services.
Police Chief, Rodney Nahwegahbow was exceptionally pleased with the generosity of the contributing agencies and indicated that this was a great opportunity for us to step forward and help those in need. He extends his thanks to everyone who helped contribute to this very worthy cause.
Manitoulin Santa Claus parades this weekend
The annual Little Current and Gore Bay Santa Claus Parades are being held on Saturday, December 5.
The parade in Little Current will begin at 6 pm starting at the parking lot behind the LCBO Store along Meredith Street to Red Mill Road and along Robinson Street to downtown ending at the parking lot where the parade started.
The Gore Bay Santa Claus Parade starts at 7:30 pm and starts at the C.C. McLean Public School and then along Meredith Street ending downtown.
The Manitoulin Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) would like to remind all participants that safety is of extreme importance. Let’s all ensure that children are monitored and kept safe during the parade. Motorists in the area of the time of the parades are asked to use extreme caution as adults and children will be walking on the roadways.
Members of the Manitoulin OPP will be leading the parade and providing traffic control for added safety.
