Manitoulin OPP investigates sudden death in Sables-Spanish

SABLES-SPANISH RIVERS—The Manitoulin detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) is investigating a sudden death in Sables-Spanish River. 

Shortly after 9 am on Tuesday, February 6, members of the Manitoulin OPP, Manitoulin-Sudbury Paramedic Services and Sables-Spanish Rivers fire department responded to a medical call on First Street in Sables-Spanish.

A person, 26, from Massey, was located deceased in the residence.

The investigation is ongoing with the Manitoulin Crime Unit under the direction of the office of the Chief Coroner and the Ontario Forensic Pathology Service.

A post-mortem examination is scheduled at a later date in Sudbury.

There is no threat to public safety, reported the Manitoulin OPP.

Break enter and theft being investigated

WIIKWEMKOONG—The Wikwemikong Tribal Police Service (WTPS) is continuing its investigation into a break enter and theft in the community.

On Thursday, February 1 at approximately 8 am, the WTPS received a call of a break, enter and theft that occurred at a residence in the main village area of the Wiikwemkoong Unceded Territory (WUT). 

Officers attended the residence and were advised by the complainant that the break and enter occurred sometime between January 30 and February 1. Unknown suspects had entered the residence and stole several items including electronics and cash. 

Some of the other items that were noted missing included PlayStation 5, Lenovo Laptop with laptop bag, Manitoba Snowy Owl Boots, a Sony Bluetooth speaker, Galaxy tablet, beaded lanyard, earrings, diamond rings and a wedding band.
