Faulty brakes cause vehicle to go in ditch

Fortunately no injuries were reported as a result of a single motor vehicle accident that occurred on Tuesday, August 29 just outside of Little Current.

Constable John Hill with the Manitoulin detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) reported that the accident took place at approximately 10:30 am on Highway 540 at McLean’s Mountain sideroad. A vehicle malfunction, caused by faulty brakes led to the vehicle going off the road into a ditch.

There were no injuries reported and no charges laid, the OPP reports.

Mindemoya incident resolved peacefully, OPP reports

The Manitoulin detachment of the OPP reports that a weapons call in Mindemoya last week was resolved peacefully.

On Thursday morning, at close to 6 am, the OPP posted a message on social media asking the public to avoid the area of Limberlost Lane in Mindemoya and not to use drones, citing officer safety. There was an increased presence of officers in the area, but police had not provided any details at the time as to the reason.

However, Constable Hill indicated there was no concern for public safety and the situation was contained.

The OPP provided an update later in the week which explained that they had responded to a weapons call in Mindemoya. Several OPP resources were deployed in Mindemoya in response to the call.

On Wednesday (August 30), shortly before 10 pm the Manitoulin OPP responded to a weapons call at a residence on Limberlost Lane. Shortly before 9:30 am Thursday the situation came to a peaceful resolution. The person involved was arrested and taken to hospital for assessment.

A 27-year-old man from Central Manitoulin was charged with uttering threats. The accused was released unconditionally and is to be in Gore Bay court on October 11.
