Wikwemikong Tribal Police Service seeking public assistance in locating person charged with assault
The Wikwemikong Tribal Police Service (WTPS) is actively investigating an assault incident that occurred at a residence in the main village on the Wiikwemkoong Unceded Territory (WUT).
On Sunday, May 27 at approximately 9 am, the WTPS responded to an assault complaint that occurred in Wiikwemkoong.
As a result of a confrontation between the suspect and complainant, the victim suffered a serious injury.
As a result of the investigation, a warrant was sought for the arrest of Donovan Taibossigai, 37, of Wiikwemkoong.
If anyone has any information on the whereabouts of Donovan Taibossigai they are asked to contact the WTPS at 705-859-3141, or Crimestoppers at 1-800-222-TIPS, where a person may be eligible for a cash reward of up to $2,000.
Wikwemikong Tribal Police Service respond to attempted break and enter
WTPS responded to a report of an attempted break-in in the community.
During the early morning hours of Saturday, July 29, WTPS received a call of an attempted break and enter of a residence on Amikook Street in the main village area on the Wiikwemkoong Unceded Territory (WUT).
Officers responded to a call of persons attempting to enter the residence through a basement window of the residence. Entry was not gained and suspects fled the area. No description of the suspects was available at this time.
WTPS encourage residents to report any similar suspicious activity in their area to police at (705) 859-3141 or through the Ontario Provincial Police communications centre at 1-888-310-1122.
Wikwemikong Tribal Police Service adds to officer complement
WTPS has added a couple of new members to its staff officer complement.
“Welcoming James (Jim) Hodder as our newest special constable/court officer (S/Cst.) for Wikwemikong Tribal Police Service,” a release states.
On July 31, Acting Staff Sergeant Chris Wesley presented special constable James Hodder with his badge. “S/Cst. Hodder joins WTPS as an experienced special constable from the Ontario Provincial Police OPP. S/Cst. Hodder looks forward to working with the staff at WTPS and the community members of Wiikwemkoong.”
“WTPS would like to welcome our newest member, constable Lance Kitchikeg, who graduated from the Ontario Police College. He will soon be serving our community,” the WTPS release reads.
