Lauren Satok exhibit, Earth and Sky, opens at Perivale Gallery on Saturday

PERIVALE—Earth and Sky, an exhibition and sale of the newest works of Lauren Satok, will open on Saturday, July 16 at Perivale Gallery and will continue until the gallery’s seasonal closing on September 18.

Ms. Satok’s large and small oil paintings respond to everchanging mysteries experienced in nature on Manitoulin Island. This new body of work expresses the wide-open blueness of Lake Huron’s bays then follows a dance of luminous deep coloured night skies. Smaller works are forays into winter, snowshoe trails, the maple bush during collection time, the artist’s expansive garden and first snows on abandoned farms. Her partial abstractions respond to what is wild at source.

Ms. Satok was born and raised in Toronto. She studied environmental biology at the University of Guelph then at the University of Toronto in 2000 to finish an arts degree. She completed courses in fine art at U of T, the Toronto School of Art and OCAD. Her work has been shown in several international art fairs, is in three corporate collections and in private collections across Canada. Since 2006, Ms. Satok completed 10 solo exhibitions and numerous groups shows in Toronto, Montreal, Sault Ste. Marie and Manitoulin Island, also including her other practice of drawing.

In 2018 Ms. Satok received an OAC Northern Arts Project grant for her work Behind the Masks of Reconciliation and completed a solo exhibition at the Debajehmujig’s KB Reynold’s Mastin Gallery.

Ms. Satok’s work is included in catalogues at Canadian Fine Arts Gallery Toronto and Beaux Arts des Ameriques in Montreal. Her painting received second place at the 2018 La Cloche Art Show and for her large format piece ‘Under and Over’ in Vaughan’s Urban Jungle in 2017. In 2021, two of Ms. Satok’s drawings ‘Astrolabe’ and ‘Raising Consciousness and Terra Nullius’ were chosen to be included in a time capsule of international artists’ work to be sent and remain on the moon on the next lunar launch.

Ms. Satok lives and paints on Manitoulin Island.

Ms. Satok will be at Perivale Gallery, 1320 Perivale Road East, Spring Bay, to welcome visitors to her show on Saturday, July 16 from 1 to 5 pm. Masking and the following of COVID protocols is encouraged.
