Lake Huron coast watchers sought

MANITOULIN—The Lake Huron Centre for Coastal Conservation, a non-profit organization working to protect Lake Huron’s coastal environment, is looking for volunteers this summer for its Coast Watchers community volunteer program.

“Our Coast Watchers help us to monitor conditions along the Lake Huron shores, and track local problems, like algae, animal mortality, invasive species, etc.,” a press release from the organization states.

Through Coast Watchers, community volunteers are trained to observe, record and report the kind of information that enhances our understanding of coastal areas. “Consistent data collection helps make it possible to track environmental conditions and trends,” the press release continues. “Better knowledge of our coast helps direct conservation efforts to the right places.”

If you live on, or regularly visit, the Lake Huron shoreline and are interested in helping to keep an eye on our coastal environment, you are encouraged to join Coast Watchers today.

Contact the Coastal Centre by email at coastalcentre@lakehuron.on.ca or phone the Goderich office at (226)421-3029.
