To the Expositor:
Congratulations once again for a well-written account of the Northeast Town Council Notes of August 3 regarding the mayor’s blistering description of the OPP boathouse. There is little doubt that most residents would agree wholeheartedly.
However, to further the subject of “crap,” why not take a good look at the bottom of Worthington Street in Little Current. Here we see peeling paint, store signs that were once functional now reveal rusted innards, with forgotten fluorescent light tubes, door and windows with rotting woodwork plus a neighbouring three-quarter painted canary yellow sign with slapped on wooden edging.
Next comes the old bowling alley with a fine front and a roof, which is covered with flapping torn tarps that hang over the edges and look as though they were rescued from the town dump. And, to make the picture more appealing, areas on the walls that look as though someone has tried to clean their dirty paintbrushes on them.
Someone once said that beauty is in the eye of the beholder. If that is the case, one wonders what our visitors see and think, as well as our local inhabitants. Perhaps the aforementioned ‘crap’ is too much for gentle eyeballs and we make it easier by looking somewhere else.
Sincerely,
Ivan Wheale
