Knox United 4th Annual Charity Golf Tournament again a success

ASSIGINACK—The Knox United Church 4th Annual Charity Golf Tournament held at Rainbow Ridge Golf Course on Tuesday, July 10 was again a highly successful event. A total of $12,000 was raised by the event, bringing the four-year results up to $44,500, half of which is shared with local charitable and non-profit community organizations and the other half goes to the Knox Building Fund.

Manitowaning Mill Home Hardware and Building Centre was the Title Sponsor again this year with a $2,000 donation. Manitoulin Transport and Manitowaning Freshmart were both significant sponsors, donating $1,000 each.

The winners of the Knox Charity Golf Tournament are: men’s division, Ken Bond, Floyd Ense, Paul Menthor and Harold Thirkell; women, Carol Hughes, June McDougall, Barb Poulton and Marilyn Smith; mixed, Bob Corbiere, Sonja Morningstar, Henry Hoy and Elaine Hoy.

“The support received from the business community as well as the participants and volunteers exceeded last year,” said Al Mattison, tournament committee coordinator.

The following 12 groups are being included in the distribution of the proceeds this year, which takes place at the church on Sunday, September 9 during the regular church service at 9:30 am: Burns Wharf Theatre Players, Assiginack Curling Club, Assiginack Public Library, Fixing our Felines, Manitoulin Family Resources, Manitoulin Secondary School, Manitoulin Special Olympics, Manitowaning Agricultural Society, Manitowaning Minor Hockey, St. Paul’s Anglican Church, Tehkummah Public Library and the Triangle Seniors’ Club.

The 5th annual charity golf tournament takes place next year on Tuesday, July 9, 2019. Congratulations to everyone who helped make the event a success.
