GEORGIAN BAY—This Friday, June 20, knitters are encouraged to take part in a World Wide Knit in Public Week event aboard the MS Chi-Cheemaun ferry.
This will be the second year for local knitters taking part in the global event in celebration of all things knit and it has been organized by Jody Pilon, who also organizes the Espanola Fibre Arts Festival.
Last year, about 10 knitters hopped aboard the ferry for the knit in public day, but Ms. Pilon said she is hoping to top that number this year and encourages all knitters to get involved in a nice day of sailing and knitting. The group also plans to meet today (Wednesday, June 18) in the Espanola Mall.
“We had such a nice day last year,” Ms. Pilon said of the sail. “And they have awfully good butter tarts.”
Knitters will walk on the 11:10 am ferry this Friday, returning to South Baymouth at 3:30 pm. The cost is $28 for a return sail, $23.25 for senior citizens.
“Tell them you’re part of the knitting group, and if there’s more than 10 of us, there’s a group discount,” Ms. Pilon urged.
The group plans to drop in on the Sheepish Grin in Michael’s Bay on the way home in order to round out the Knit in Public Week event.
The Thursday morning knitting group, The Purls of Wisdom, which meets at the Little Current Library, will also be hosting an event in honour of World Wide Knit in Public Week this Thursday, June 19 between 10 am and noon at Soldier’s Park in downtown Little Current. In case of inclement weather, knitters are encouraged to meet at The Island Jar.
