Kenjgewin Teg Educational Institute hosts fifth annual Science Fair

M’CHIGEENG––The 5th Annual Kenjgewin Teg Educational Institute (KTEI) Science Fair was hosted by Lakeview School in M’Chigeeng, welcoming 70 students between Grades 1 to 8 with a total of 52 exhibits. Three Island area member schools were represented with students from Shawanosowe School (Whitefish River), Lakeview School (M’Chigeeng), and St. Joseph’s School (Sheshegwaning). Students proudly showcased their exhibits amongst each other and exemplified their knowledge in science and presentations.

Each student received participation medals for being involved with the Science Fair, with the top 4 winners in each junior and intermediate groups receiving gifts for their outstanding exhibits. In addition, a random draw for 2 surprise gifts were awarded to 2 lucky science fair participants.

The list of winners for the 5th Annual KTEI Science Fair, junior and intermediate divisions were: Junior Division: first place, Ira Paibomsai of Shawanosowe School for his project on conductors; second place, Brandon Visitor, Drake Jacko and Brayden Waindubence of Shawanosowe School for their project on levitating; third place, Morgan Billings, also of Shawanosowe School, for her project on ‘Keep Your Candy with Evaporation;’ and fourth place, Felicity Paibomsai of Shawanosowe School for her project ‘foam it.’

In the intermediate/senior division, Darci Debassige of Lakeview School, took top honours for her project on ‘Does Sleep Deprivation Affect Brain Performance;’ second place, Eli Paibomsai of Shawanosowe School for his project on popcorn science; third place, Harmony Fox-Kaiser of Lakeview School for her electrolyte challenge project; and fourth place, Lakeview’s Shade Kaiser for his project on ‘how do video games affect the body.’
