KEN HAYWARD

Peacefully on June 9, 2011 in London, Ontario, embraced by the love of his family, Kenneth “Ken” Victor Hayward passed away at the age of 85. Adored by his wife of 61 years Shirley Eva (Hanbidge) Hayward. Cherished father of Leanne McGill and her husband Ross Downham (Providence Bay), Cheryl Killough and her husband Kevin (St. Thomas) and Tim Hayward and his wife Denise (Georgetown). Loved and honoured by his grandchildren Tim Killough, Greg Killough and his wife Joanne, Melissa McGill and her spouse Marc Hoffman, Mariel McGill, and Max and Zach Hayward and his great-grandson Alton Hoffman. Survived by his siblings Bill Hayward and his wife Fran, Nan Chin and her husband Ken, and Jill Tucker and her husband Gerry. Dear brother-in-law of Marian Hayward, Sharon Hayward, Audrey Hanbidge, Joan Hanbidge, and Bob Hanbidge. Predeceased by his parents Stanley and Mae Hayward and in-laws Fred and Eva Hanbidge (Owen Sound) and his siblings Ruth Gacs, Ted and Dave Hayward, and by his sisters-in-law Helen Dutton and Ida Hanbidge and brothers-in-law Leith and Hank Hanbidge, Ed Dutton and Lou Gacs. Ken was born and raised in Owen Sound where he met the love of his life Shirley. An avid sportsman, he played professional lacrosse, loved to fish for trout in the streams in and around Owen Sound and on Manitoulin Island. Ken treasured his time at the family cottage on Point Simcoe Road in Providence Bay beside the cottage of his brother and sister-in-law Ed and Helen Dutton (predeceased). Ken served during WWII with the RCAF. He started his career as a railway mail clerk and retired as a postal clerk with Canada Post. He was a member of the RCAF Association, Royal Canadian Legion and the Heritage Club of Canada Post. Ken always had an amazing sense of humour and taught his family many things including the gift of laughter. He lived a life to the fullest and his proudest moments centered around his family. Ken lived by the motto “live well, laugh often, love much”. Cremation has taken place. Friends will be received by the family from 3-5 and 7-9 pm on Saturday, June 25, 2011 at the A. Millard George Funeral Home, 60 Ridout Street South, London, Ontario. The Celebration of Ken’s life will be conducted in the chapel of the funeral home on Sunday, June 26, 2011 at 1 pm.
