KAGAWONG—Stacy Torkopoulos was all smiles as she greeted customers to her cheerful store, the newly opened Storyopolis in Kagawong. The colourful sunflower decor and potted tulips lined an upper shelf while gently used and new books were displayed on shelves complete with cozy chairs for enjoying a favourite book or a new find.
Local authors Evelyn Cardiff, Margo Little, Julia Snell and Linda Willson from Manitoulin Writer’s Circle were on hand to read excerpts from their books.
Hot dogs were on the barbecue on the outdoor patio while cake, coffee and tea was served inside.
“We have been swamped since the store opened at 11 am,” shared Ms. Torkopoulos. “It has had a good response, and we’ve sold a lot of plants—I am very happy.”
“My hope,” said Ms. Torkopoulos, “is that our customers will find a treasure or two among our selection of books.”
Gift certificates are available for that someone who enjoys a new or gently used adult or children’s book.
Each person who purchased a book got to choose a free bookmark and put their name in a draw for two weekend passes to Bluegrass in the Country. The lucky winner was Valita Lloyd.
