JOHN DOUGLAS TAYLOR MCMULLAN March 24, 1934 – October 2, 2023 It is with deepest sorrow that we announce the passing of John Douglas Taylor McMullan. Doug, as he was affectionately known, passed away on October 2, 2023 at Health Sciences North in Sudbury, Ontario at the age of 89. He was born on March 24, 1934 in Toronto, Ontario. The youngest of three children, he grew up and attended school in Mimico. Doug was a people person dedicated to his family and his work. Doug graduated from University of Toronto in 1956 with a degree in Chemical Engineering. He began his career in the technical department with KVP Company, which was later purchased by E. B. Eddy. He met and married the love of his life, Roberta McLaughlin, in 1960 and they embarked on the journey of building a family and life for themselves in Espanola. Through a dynamic and committed career, he was promoted to Mill Manager and eventually to Group Vice President, Pulp, Forestry and Wood Products until he retired in 1997. Doug took great pride in his work and his community, which made the walk to and from work every day a source of great satisfaction. He is survived by his loving wife of 63 years, Roberta McMullan (nee McLaughlin). He will be cherished by his children Douglas McMullan (Elizabeth Dumas), Hugh McMullan and Heather Nicholson (Dennis Nicholson), as well as his grandchildren Ryan Nicholson (Kady Bilodeau), Daniel Nicholson (Mackenzie Kadwell) and Esme McMullan. He will be fondly remembered by his brother-in-law Hugh McLaughlin (Molly Anne Priddle), and nieces and nephews Alfred McMullan, Chris McMullan, Neil McMullan, Michael Holmes, Christopher Holmes, Kanina Holmes, Kim Smith-Chamberlain, Terrance Smith, Pamela McLaughlin, Sean McLaughlin, Cole McLaughlin and many grand nieces and nephews. Doug was predeceased by his father, Alfred Thomas McMullan, his mother, Hanna McMullan (nee Beresford), his brother, Alfred McMullan, his sister-in-law, Joan McMullan (nee deLaplante), his sister, Joan Holmes, and his brother-in-law, Brian Holmes, his sister-in-law, Dorothy Smith, his brother-in-law, Fred Smith, and his nephew, Kevin McMullan. Arrangements for cremation have been made through the Bourcier Funeral Home in Espanola. An internment service will be held next spring at the Hilly Grove Cemetery, Manitoulin Island. Doug’s family would like to thank Dr. Samant Liauw and the HSN Cardiac Team Dr. Theresa Mirka, HSN nurses Brittany, Vidhi, Natasha, Shane, Emmanuel and Lori as well as the team of dedicated PSWs assigned to the eighth floor.
