Island runner takes top spot in his category at marathon

M’CHIGEENG—Manitoulin marathon runner Christian Kaiser-Fox finished first in his category at the Niagara Ultra marathon, held June 18.

“I finished the full marathon, 42.2 kilometres,” Mr. Kaiser-Fox said. “I did well, posting a time of three hours, 27 minutes and 55 seconds.”

Mr. Kaiser-Fox placed seventh overall in the marathon, and first in his category (male runners between the age of 25-29). A total of 107 runners took part in the full marathon race. Other races included the half marathon, 50-kilometre and 80-kilometre runs.

Mr. Kaiser-Fox, who is from M’Chigeeng First Nation, indicated previously that one of his goals is to qualify for the prestigious Boston Marathon. “I would have to run under three hours to qualify for Boston. I feel pretty close to attaining this,” he said. He will next participate in the Toronto Waterfront Marathon, to be held in October.
