Island elementary school basketball champs crowned

MANITOULIN—Assiginack Public School in Manitowaning and Central Manitoulin Public School (CMPS) in Mindemoya claimed the boys’ and girls’ Island elementary school basketball championships respectively last week.

In the girls’ division, CMPS won all their games to take first place in the tournament held in Little Current. Finishing second was Assiginack Public School with Little Current Public School (LCPS) taking third place.

The CMPS team included Jordan Graham, Naomi Hill, Nicole Cress, Delaney Bridgeman, Sadie Bridgeman, Annie Balfe, Ava Assinewai, Abbie Heins, Tessa McGillis-Prior, Lexis Young and coaches Tamey McAllister and Jon Balfe.

In the boys’ division, with the tournament being held in Aundeck Omni Kaning, Assiginack Public School took top spot, followed by LCPS and Lakeview Elementary School in second and third, respectively.

The Assiginack team included Jack Pennie, Ethan Dey, Methis Bredin, Joel Mailloux, Cole Hughson, Jon Mende and Brody Pennie, coach and teacher Kelsey Leclair.
