Island District Cenotaph Committee seeking donations for grounds repair

SPRING BAY—The Manitoulin District Cenotaph is in need of some work, specifically the grounds around the monument, and the committee that oversees the cenotaph is asking for the public’s assistance in raising the funds needed.

Linda Bowerman, chair of the Manitoulin District Cenotaph Committee, explained that the interlocking brick surrounding the monument, which was installed in 1994, needs to be replaced to the tune of $8,000.

Ms. Bowerman said she learned last week that a grant from Veterans’ Affairs was approved from the Commemorative Partnership Program to help cover $3,700 of the $8,000 needed, bringing the new total needing to be raised to $4,300.

All donations will receive a charitable tax receipt.

In a side note, Ms. Bowerman noted that this will likely be the last fundraising project—of many Ms. Bowerman has been spearheaded with over the years—she will be involved with.

Donations can be mailed to: Manitoulin District Cenotaph, PO Box 656, Little Current, Ontario P0P 1K0.
