MANITOULIN—The excitement was palpable as the Manitoulin Expositor Salmon Classic tickets purchased by the stroke of midnight on Thursday, June 23 deadline were shaken, not stirred, by Manitoulin Expositor staff writer Robin Burridge and production manager Dave Patterson dug deep to pull out the name of the $500 early bird winner.
The early bird winner was Carole Sisson of Little Current, who along with her husband Paul, had purchased tickets for the draw.
“We love to fish,” said Ms. Sisson. While Ms. Sisson’s favourite eating fish are pike, bass and perch, she also loves smoked fish. “My husband smokes salmon,” she said, “so we are looking forward to bringing in the winning fish.”
Ms. Sisson was struggling with purchasing a ticket for her daughter, who will be visiting from Wisconsin for a week. That decision was made easier when she was informed that everyone in the boat has to have a ticket for the fish caught to be eligible for the big prize, not to mention the $500 in cash that she won in the early bird.
The next draw will take place at 2 pm on Friday, July 22 and will include tickets purchased by midnight July 21. That prize includes two night accommodations at the Manitoulin Hotel and Conference Centre and dinner for two at Green Acres Tent and Trailer Park and Restaurant.
