MANITOULIN—Manitoulin 348 Sea Cadets took part in the annual ‘Winter Palooza’ held in Sault Ste. Marie the second weekend in February.
“Basically, the Winter Palooza is a weekend where cadets with the Army, Air and Sea Cadets get together to have some fun, learn skills and make friends doing some outdoor winter activities,” said Sylvain Boucher.
Mr. Boucher explained, “there is also an element of training being provided to the cadets, gathering wood to build a fire and make a winter shelter. All the activities are based on a scenario of being outside in the winter and having to do things that are necessary to survive.”

“Among some of the fun activities cadets took part in was the opportunity for some to take part in fat biking,” said Mr. Boucher.
On Sunday, February 9 the cadets attended the annual Bon Soo Winter Carnival activities in the Sault.
“This was the second year that the Winter Palooza has taken place,” said Mr. Boucher. “Last year it was held in Sudbury. All the activities were run by the Advanced Leadership Program senior cadets who organize all the activities, learning and leadership skills.”
“There were 114 cadets on hand, including those from Sault Ste. Marie, Blind River, Elliot Lake, Bruce Mines and Manitoulin,” added Mr. Boucher.
