Island-based Miss Universe Canada contestant fundraising for SOS Children’s Villages

GORE BAY—Twenty-five-year-old Madison Kvaltin, of Gore Bay, will be competing at Miss Universe Canada.

Ms. Kvaltin began work as a management intern at Manitoulin Transport last week and will be competing for the Canada-wide title next month, focusing on her advocacy on body image and positive mental health.

“Last year was my first time being a contestant in the Miss International Canada and I did extremely well, finishing as the first runner-up,” Ms. Kvaltin told The Expositor. She then went on to compete in Miss International and placed within the top eight overall, the highest finish for a Canadian since 1961.

“I just felt I would be disappointed in myself if I didn’t compete again this year,” said Ms. Kvaltin. “And I have learned from last year what I need to improve. I wanted to give myself a second chance.”

Ms. Kvaltin is also fundraising for SOS Children’s Villages, which is the official charity of Miss Universe Canada. “It is a wonderful cause, and one that I am very happy to be supporting,” she said, noting it is the official charity of Miss Universe Canada.

She is originally from Sudbury, having moved to Gore Bay well over a year ago. Apart from her work at Manitoulin Transport Ms. Kvaltin is also an entrepreneur who owns two companies, Skill Athletics, selling athletic wear and Mad Media Marketing that focuses on body imaging and positive health.
