Integrity commissioner clears Central Manitoulin councillors

CENTRAL MANITOULIN—Zach Courtemanche, the integrity commissioner for the Municipality of Central Manitoulin, delivered verbal summaries of two reports to the February 27 meeting of the Office and Administration Committee held virtually. The reports dealt with complaints against Councillors John Bissaillion and Brian Mitchell and involved a vote on a donation to a Lions Club alleging a conflict of interest.

The integrity commissioner found no basis for the complaints and recommended no further action be taken. The complaints sent to the integrity commissioner also named members of staff, but the integrity commissioner pointed out that he has no jurisdiction over municipal employees and therefore did not investigate those complaints.

A motion to accept the verbal summaries presented by the integrity commissioner was moved by Mayor Richard Stephens and seconded by Councillor Derek Stephens.

The commissioner reports will be published on the municipal website as per the integrity commissioner’s order.
