WIKWEMIKONG—A Wikwemikong man is dead following a September 14 workplace accident in that community.
Dead is 33-year-old Alex John Boniface George (Wassengeso) Naanookshkaans who perished when the trench in which he was working, installing sewer and water lines for the construction of new homes in the community, collapsed.
Matt Blajer, spokesperson for the Minstry of Labour, confirmed that a fatal accident had occurred in the community and that the worker who died was working for Manitowabi Shell Construction at 36 Andrew Crescent in Wikwemikong when the accident occurred.
The accident falls under provincial jurisdiction, noted Mr. Blajer, who said that there was little additional information as a ministry investigation was ongoing.
