ESPANOLA—Pointstreak Sports Technologies Inc. is excited to announce the first annual showcase weekend hosted by the Espanola Rivermen this weekend, January 10-11. A total of four regular season league games will be played at the Espanola Regional Recreation Complex. This showcase opportunity will provide a platform for coaches, managers and scouts of the National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA), Canadian Interuniversity Sport (CIS), Central Hockey League (CHL), American Collegiate Hockey Association and National Hockey League to see all the players and student athletes of the Northern Ontario Junior Hockey League (NOJHL) participating in one central location.
Pointstreak Sports Technologies Inc. will be providing their real-time platform for the event so all interested stakeholders can follow the games as they happen. “We have a long standing relationship with the Junior A hockey programs throughout North America that have benefited from our technology platforms and we look forward to bringing this to the NOJHL,” said Pointstreak Vice President Brent Grieve. “Having worked with Tim Clayden and head coach Tom McCarthy has been very rewarding. Through Pointstreak Performance we have helped their teams deliver a platform that provides their student athletes’ academic and athletic abilities added exposure to colleges and universities throughout Canada and the United States.”
Espanola Team Governor and Director of Operations Tim Clayden said, “We are an organization that has worked in partnership and enjoyed success in moving over 80 players onto the next level with Pointstreak Performance for the last 11 years. Due to our geography and the secluded nature of our market I believe an association with Pointstreak for the entire league will be a very important advancement in the overall exposure of our student-athletes. Improving technology and creating events like the one in January in Espanola break geographical barriers and make it easier for scouts and recruiters to evaluate our players first hand.”
“I am especially excited about this inaugural event, these types of showcases coupled with the most advanced sports technologies are pivotal in promotion of our players and the NOJHL,” said head coach Tom McCarthy. “The technology Pointstreak provides will enhance our opportunity to help all our NOJHL student athletes in their quest to further their hockey and academic careers.”
The Espanola franchise has seen a number of players from its 2012-13 roster graduate to the NCAA, CIS and the OHL.
This Friday, January 10 sees Elliot Lake take on the Rivermen at 7:30 pm at the Espanola complex while Saturday games include Kirkland Lake versus Blind River at 1:30 pm, Abitibi verses the Soo at 4:15 pm and Sudbury versus North Bay at 7:15 pm.
