Impaired Driving by Drug – Charges Laid


Drug Recognition Evaluation Officer Utilized

NORTH BAY – On March 6, 2014 at approximately 4:16 p.m., members of the Mattawa Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) received a call of a traffic complaint on Highway 17, Calvin Township.

Officers attended the scene and located the vehicle involved in the traffic complaint. While at the scene and during the course of their investigation, the officers noted signs of impairment. The driver was arrested for Impaired Driving by drug and the OPP area expert conducted a Drug Recognition Evaluation (DRE), which confirmed that the driver was impaired by drugs.

Charged is 22 year old, James COLE of Ottawa, with Impaired Operation of a Motor Vehicle by Drug, contrary to section 253(1)(a) of the Criminal Code of Canada. The accused was released and his first court appearance date will be April 15, 2014 at the Ontario Court of Justice in North Bay, ON.
