MANITOULIN–One of the most beautiful sights on Manitoulin Island during the period of freezing temperatures in early winter, but before too much snow arrives, is the formation of ice on branches and rocks near local streams and water falls. Saturday, November 15 provided just the right conditions for this to occur. Temperatures averaged about -5C throughout the day and along with high humidity and a slight wind, it was cold enough for ice to build up. Even though warm gloves and a hat were worn, it felt uncomfortably cool, but then it takes a while for us to become acclimated to cold temperatures.

- High Falls on Highway 6. There is an unusually high volume of water coming over the falls for this time of the year, leading to small seepages along the edges and the formation of icicles.

- Icicles formed on a branch lying across a small stream exiting a beaver pond on the Townline Road west of Sheguiandah.

- Branches hanging near the water surface in the stream below High Falls with plate-shaped masses of ice.

- Ice build-up on a small shrub growing in the high water of the stream exiting Bass Lake near the Batman Sawmill in Sheguiandah.
