LITTLE CURRENT—The clever work of the artists of Little Current Public School adorn the walls of 3 Cows and a Cone in Little Current these days with beautiful framed pictures, all depicting their favourite summertime treat—ice cream, of course.
Proprietor Phil Blake explained that following their winter renovation, with freshly painted strawberry ice cream-hued walls, he and manager Carrie Moore decided they were in need of some art for the walls and decided to look to some of their best customers for help—the students of Little Current Public School.
Mr. Blake put out a call for students to create their best ice cream-themed art, which would also earn them a free ice cream from the dairy bar. The entire student population obliged, not surprisingly, and then came the hard part—narrowing it down to 10 pieces to matt, frame (courtesy of Omega Picture Framing in Mindemoya) and hang on the walls.
Mr. Blake explained that one evening after closing time, the art was spread out over the entire floor of 3 Cows and he, Ms. Moore and some members of staff worked at picking their favourites.
“We couldn’t get down to 10, so we picked 16,” Mr. Blake said. The rest of the works will also be at the dairy bar, available for customers to peruse and purchase, with the money going back to the school. In honour of being such good sports, Mr. Blake is also donating all of the pizzas for one pizza day at the school.
The 16 winners, on top of their free ice cream, will also receive a free pizza and order of French fries for their creativity. The artists are: Mackensie Graham, McKenna Barnes, Ashton Debassige, Jessica Boyle, Hannah McDonald, Issa Corbiere, Cole Laidley, Nikki Jonston, Britney Biederman, Nikita Mishibinijima, Ella Corbiere, Katie Chapman, Kendall Boyler, J.J. Anderson and Ella Tasse.
“It’s a win, win for everybody,” Mr. Blake said.
Stop by 3 Cows and a Cone to view the work by budding student artists, and a delicious cool treat.
