OHL’s newest player!
Kohyn Eshkawkogan, having been drafted by teams in two different leagues, was spoiled for choice but has decided to sign with the Ottawa 67’s! The 67’s are a fantastic organization and they are likewise very appreciative of their young phenom. The general manager, James Boyd, posted, “Kohyn Eshkawkogan has signed an Ontario Hockey League Scholarship and Development Agreement with the 67’s. Kohyn is an intelligent and efficient defender with excellent skating ability!”
This past weekend, Kohyn was one of only 22 2008-born male and female athletes selected to participate in the Fuelling the Future Invitational Camp hosted by the Toronto Maple Leafs and Gatorade. The event was held at the Ford Performance Centre—the practice facility for the Toronto Marlies and Toronto Maple Leafs!
There were various on and off ice sessions over a jam packed two days with special guests like Darcy Tucker, Shayne Corson, Sam Cosentino, Frank Corrado, Jennifer Botterill and Ryan Reaves sharing their knowledge and experiences. Congratulations, Kohyn, what memories you are creating!
Eagles compete in Flag Football!
The Central Manitoulin Public School’s boys’ and girls’ flag football teams competed in the Lancers’ Flag Football Tournament this past week. Teacher and Coach Ellen Ferguson’s girls’ team won third place with her team featuring: Chloe Cooper, Corie Brown, Nova Debassige, Kristen Lee, Allie Flikweert, Lily Carrick and Amber Brizuela.
On the guys’ side, Coach John Spanos’ team took fourth place with his charges: Adam Spry, Keegan Cranney, Reid Hare, Devon Mackelvie, Charles Skippen, Ryley Corbiere, Spencer Johnston, Theo Verboom and Benny Cooper!
Big Apple marathoners!
Several Islanders travelled to New York City on April 28 to participate in a half-marathon. On the Rock Fitness Center co-owner Denise Graham, her daughter Karissa Turner and Lorrilee McGregor ran twice around the world-famous Central Park along with 8,252 other runners. Running 21 km is challenging under the best conditions, but the hills and warm weather made it especially difficult. They finished close to their goal times and are already planning their next race!
