Missing OFSAA’er!
In all my talk of OFSAA results, I missed Brooke Gibeault! She plays with the Lo Ellen Knights basketball team, and Brooke and the Knights had a super tournament, finishing fourth! They showed real grit in the bronze medal game, coming from behind over and over to finally forcing overtime. What a game to end your high school basketball, Brooke!
Off the Rock, Hockey!
Carter George, coming down after his golden World Junior experience, has continued to stand out in the OHL! Carter is having quite a season, and after playing 21 games already (all but three), he is one of the top contenders by any metric. The league has him at 6th overall, taking into account goals against average and save percentage, etc.
What is even more impressive is that he has managed to attain these great stats despite playing for the Owen Sound Attack! No offense to the Attack, however, the team in front of you has a lot to do with some stats! Owen Sound is 13 and 11 in a tough Midwest division that includes the Kitchener Rangers, London Knights and the Guelph Storm. Congratulations, Carter!
Several former Panther and Island hockey grads were busy at the Silver Stick in Sudbury this past weekend, with some making the finals. Former Panther and Espanola resident, Jackson Noble scored in double overtime of the semis to get the U16AA Sudbury Wolves and teammate Greyson Brewer-Case of Little Current into the finals against Halton Hills, earning him the Player of the Game! A finalist medal was their reward when they fell 4 – 1 to Halton.
Jack Bridgeman and his U15AA Nickel City Sons prevailed in their final, winning it in double overtime 2 – 1 over the Cumberland Jr. Grads. Jack notched the 1 – 1 goal in the second to get them to OT, and the team was well-deserving of the win, outshooting the over-matched Cumberland side 42 – 14. As winners of the regionals, Jack and teammates are off to Port Huron for the International finals in January. Go Jack, go!
An update on Kohyn Eshkawkogan and his league-leading North York Rangers. Since I wrote last, he played in the Silver Stick (missed finals) two weekends ago and then this weekend was in the big USHL American Cup.
Kohyn and the U16 AAA North York Rangers went undefeated on the weekend and they brought home the banner after defeating the 2022/23 US National Champions, Bishop Kearney Selects in their home rink!
Kohyn’s outstanding 5 on 5 defensive play had him finish the weekend at a +11 in five games! By the way, his team has an active Instagram account at instagram.com/nyr08aaa/
Stay Warm with Dance this Winter
Body Stories Dance Instruction’s fall session is coming to an end, but dance isn’t over. They have many holiday events to celebrate the end of the year and winter registration is now open!
First they will be at the NEMI Santa Claus Parade on Saturday, Dec. 2 at 6 pm where their Creation and Performance students will be dancing their way along the Little Current parade route.
Next up is the Festive Family Dance Party on Wednesday, Dec. 6 from 5:30-8:30 pm at the NEMI Rec Centre. You can join Candice and the town of NEMI for a FREE night of music, snacks, dancing and fun. The evening will start with a gentle warmup and some dance games to get the party started. They will then have props and follow-along dances and great tunes to help you have a “rocking good time!”
At the LCPS Open House on Thursday, Dec. 14 from 5:30-7:30 pm, some of their senior dancers are looking forward to sharing their fall dances as part of Little Current Public School’s holiday celebrations.
