A Classic in Mindemoya!

Not missing a beat, Breakaway Sports then hosted the Mindemoya Classic on Sunday! The Run, Paddle and Pedal triathlon has been around for 20 years with a three year Covid-hiatus. The race had a great turn-out for the first iteration under Breakaway’s Quackenbush clan, management! Of course there was help from past organizer, Al Haner, Marcus Mohr and the Lions Club for their assistance with logistics as well as Nick Head-Peterson and all their other volunteers for their help in making this a successful event.

Here are the division winners but congratulations for all the participants who made it a great day. In the Relay 4s took the checkered flag. The win has to be one of the now dozens by a team containing Alex Anstice! This year his team put in the winning time of 1:13:30 with teammates Brodie Pennie, Caroline Black and Mackenzie Green!

Not far behind was the fastest Relay Family in only 1:21:05, the Trotts is the family of Lucas Trottier, Mitch Trottier, Blake Trottier and Stacey Trottier. The next fastest division was down to the wire but ultimately it was the efforts of Solo Male racer, Xavi Mara! Xavi won in a rocket-like decent of the hill at the finish line to edge out Solo Female winner, Sara McIlraith by 15 seconds in her fast 1:25:30!

The next fastest division was the relay-pair both in race and life Cassandra Bedard and Nick Head-Peterson in just 1:31:22. Greg Bond and teammate, Scott Hopkins took the Masters Relay tape in 1:31:42! In the Endurance Pairs class was captured by Chris O’Brien and Keith Bryson, (1:35:30)!

Mindemoya Youth ball in good shape!

Kids have increasingly been able to been able to play and practice softball thanks to all the hard work from a now, multi-generational organizing committee. Greg Lockeyer, over the years has been able to count on some solid volunteers with kid participation as a priority. Thanks to all of the grants this group has been successful winning, Mindemoya has amazing facilities that rival any community, anywhere.

Thanks to Greg’s dedication, he has now created what looks like a succession plan with his son, Devin Lockeyer joining the collective. Group stalwart, Glen Duncanson, has also introduced his son, Owen Duncanson to the group. Also, perennial softball drivers Shannon Drouin and Annette King are still at the helm to keep everything improving. Although these have been on the organizing committee, there are numerous unnamed people who did tremendous set-up and field maintenance, etc. and pulled off the 2023 Mindemoya Youth Ball Tournament!

Condolences!

It was with sadness that we heard of another sportsman and sports’ supporter who passed away this week. Fuddy (Wilfred) Fisher was a familiar face playing in many sports over the years but especially, golf. Fuddy would also support any sporting activity by being in the stands cheering for tykes up to elders!  Baa maa pii, Fuddy.

A good sport is good for sports!
