The Classic is back!

After three years of Covid and hiatus the Mindemoya Classic is back! The run, paddle and pedal triathlon will once again, be part of the Central Manitoulin Lion’s Club’s Homecoming Canada Day Weekend festivities. The Classic can be for singles or teams of two or four. Whether you want to beat a personal time, beat a team of your friends or just finish your leg of the relay, the Mindemoya Classic will be on Sunday, July second this year!

The “challenge for everyone” triathlon is under new management too! Thankfully the kind and energetic souls behind Breakaway Sports have thankfully added the family event to their Breakaway Race Series for this summer.

The Race Series actually kicks off with the Canada Day 5 and 1K fun run on Saturday the first on Low Island in Little Current.

The Series also includes the Manitoulin Mountain Bike Challenge on June 25th held in the beautiful Mclean’s Park on New England Road in Assiginack township just off Highway 6, south of Manitowaning.

The fourth in the series is the annual Haw Run. Actually the Haw runs include your choice of a 1, 5 or 10km distances. Several masochistic runners have taken in both the five and dime for extra fun!

The headquarters of the August 5th race is at the NEMI library and is just one of many activities that will be part of Little Current’s annual Haweater Weekend on the Civic holiday.

Finally, on September 2nd the series finishes off with The Mclean’s 6 hour relay that is a fun mountain bike race accessible to everyone.  Great for the serious competitor, the recreational weekend warrior or the entire family!

Teams try to complete as many laps of the course as they can over the six hours.  You can ride it solo or in  teams of 2, 3 or 4! Awards for top finishers as well as draw prizes and post race BBQ.
