Local, crowned hockey royalty!

Congratulations to Gayle Payette who just received the highest award NOHA can give out. The nomination came from Manitoulin Minor Hockey and all the community associations it serves.

Manitowaning’s Jackie White was there at the ceremony and after wrote this amazing tribute.

“For decades Gayle has been helping us promote, navigate and do what is best for our young hockey players.

Her dedication to the sport is phenomenal! Her kind and caring nature is relied upon and her wisdom to deal with challenging situations is perhaps one of her greatest gifts!

Some have her on speed dial, even after she moved onto OHF,  to seek her opinion as it is always fair and she always looks at both sides.

Gayle is a remarkable person and island hockey is lucky to have her.” Thanks again, Gayle!

First marathon, kudos!

Manitoulin’s Tyler  McDermid ran his first marathon two weekends ago in this year’s Toronto Marathon. Tyler clocked an impressive 3:14 finishing time.

He credits his success to a bit of coaching from Evan Bayer, a long time friend. However, being  a dad of three small children is marathon training in itself!

A good sport is good is for sports!
