McLean’s 6 Hour Mountain Bike Relay!
On Saturday, August 31, the annual, epic six-hour mountain bike challenge will take place at McLean’s Park in Assiginack Township. McLean’s park offers a great variety of twisty single-track challenges, short sharp inclines and then super-fast, double tracks. The event is usually completed by teams of two or three but solo beasts have also done the deed.
The event begins at 10 am and finishes at 4 pm but it can be divided up into a most collegial occasion. It is all about the fun and experience, so do not hesitate to contact Alex Anstice or Ben Quackenbush for more information.

Maclean’s Park group rides!
A reminder that Ben and Sarah Quackenbush have been hosting mountain bike group rides at Maclean’s Park every second Thursday through July and August to introduce new people to the sport. Still remaining are the dates: August 1, 15 and 29. The group is open to all and they meet at the park trailhead at 6 pm. This great opportunity is amazing and free to boot. It is just a few kilometers off of Highway 6, north of the Highway 542 turn-off.
“Z” wrap!
M’Chigeeng’s Zaagaasge ‘Z’ Toulouse wrapped up her season with the Pro Hockey Elite (PHE) team in Boston this past weekend. She picked up a handful of assists and her team went undefeated. The only close call was against the Carolina Hurricanes. After a scoreless first period, the Hurricanes lit the lamp at the 14 minute mark. PHE came back to score at the 1:14 mark of the final period and had a break away when one of the Hurricanes players brought an Elite player down with 34 seconds left on the clock. The ref called for a penalty shot and the PHE player scored and the Canadian fans went wild. Z has been asked to come back to the team but must go through tryouts in December as a formality.
Z will be a major peewee this season and has opted not to return to the AAA team and to play at home for our Manitoulin Panthers for her final season on the Island. The family will be moving for her Bantam year. There are several teams who have expressed interest in acquiring the skilled player. The Nepean Wildcats are interested in her for their Bantam AA as are the Peterborough Ice Kats Bantam AA and a team in the Grey Bruce area. Have a great season, Z and good luck with the Panthers!
