Manitoulin Minor Spotlight
In the MMHA Spotlight this week are the Manitowaning Tyke Wolves. They are showing great improvements with every game and practise. To give you a little scouting report on the youngsters they have two goals that they are working towards. The first is stealing pucks away from the opposition in the defensive zone and getting more shots on net in the offensive zone. The players are really improving on the 1st goal and are continuing to work on the 2nd goal. Keep up the hard work: Andrew Cooper, Ava Fields, Gage Hughson, William McComb, Jacob Smith, Grace Pennie, Xavier Mara, Sebastian Belanger, Rylan Pennie, Isabella Hughson, Dane Gibeault, Sapphire Case, Novella Therrien, Jack Hagman, Arabella Otosquaiob. The team staff is big part of their improvement as well, congratulations to: manager Tracy Cooper, trainer Blair Hagman, head coach Lisa Pennie, and assistant coaches Kelly Belanger, Janet and Bill McComb, Ron Cooper and Jason Hughson.

Panther Points
The Manitoulin Panther Atoms had an amazing weekend in the Sault at the Soo Steel Blades Tournament. The youngest cats were offensive stars all weekend racking up more than a third more goals than any other team and finished in second overall, even topping the home-town favourites. In the championship game, the Panthers’ needed a little more attention to the defensive side of their game but the silver medal was still a great accomplishment. Their success is all the more impressive when you consider that they played in the Major A division even with only 4 major-aged players. Hats off to players: Johnny Bushey, Hudson Hare, Noah Hare, Billy Biederman, Jesse Burella, C.J. Newbury, Kacey Debassige, Todd Gordon, Carson Gonawabi, Nyron Panamick, Jack Renwick, Victoria Trudeau, Samuel Assinewai, Liam Bridgeman, Jonas Mejaki and coaches Jonas Bondy, Tim Renwick and Shaun Assinewai.
Mustang Minute
The Manitoulin Mustang Girls’ hockey team is having a great start to their season. The team is sitting at an enviable 3 and 1 record. Their last home game was a close 3-2 win over MacDonald Cartier last week. Their only loss was handed to them by the powerhouse St. Charles Cards. If you can, try and catch their next home game today at 3:30 pm in M’Chigeeng versus Marymount. Unfortunately the squad doesn’t play another home game until after the holidays. Keep up the good work ladies: Robin Lentir, Anna Migwans, Danielle Migwans, Meaghan Wall-Varey, Sabrina Trudeau, Meghan Strain, Taylor Peltier, Bridgette McDonald, Tess Doane, Cassandra Cristo, Kylie Cranston and Michelle Campbell and head coach Steve Doane.
Sudbury Lady Wolves busy
There were lots of Island players down in Peterborough for the annual Ice Kats girls’ tournament this past weekend. Anchoring the Lady Wolves Peewee C division are Abby and Dana Lewis who figured in large in winning the Kats’ cup. In fact, goaltender Dana had two shutouts. She stoned Rockland 1-0 and Peterborough 5-0. In the championship match she also won the game MVP with a 2-1 win over the Glouchester-Cumberland Stars. The Wolves GF/GA record was an amazing 16:2 over the duration of the event.
Hats off to M’Chigeeng’s Amber Debassige whose team, the Sudbury Lady Wolves Senior A team, earned their second straight gold medal. This past weekend they were on the Trent and also took the banner. On top of that the squad also brought home the hardware from the Blue Sky Classic in North Bay a couple of weeks ago.
Congratulations to Craig Ferguson and his daughter Caitlyn whose Midget BB Wolves squad also won their Ice Kats division this past weekend. Caitlyn is still nursing an injury and we wish her a speedy recovery.
Santas called to shuffle, elves to walk
This weekend is the annual 5k Santa Shuffle and 1k Elf Walk in Sudbury on Saturday. The event is sponsored by the Running Room and the Salvation Army so what a great excuse to get out and help out.
A good sport is good for sports.
