Panther points
As our Manitoulin Panthers rally to rise up the rankings for the push to the playoffs, here is a quick update on their season and give recognition to their rosters and staff.
The Novice currently sit in sixth place and hope to pull themselves up into a favourable position. Keep up the great work: James Panamick, Liam Stephens, Lincoln Rancourt, Treyton Manitowabi, Koda Peltier, Roen Deschenes, Cohen Rajotte, Bryden Romaniuk, June Corbiere, Ryan Carter, Tennille Shawanda, Preston Dey, Jaykob Corbiere and Memphis Shawanda. Thanks as well to coaches Jeremiah Corbiere, Nelson Deschenes, James Panamick and Scott Stephens.
On the Atom front, coach Kevin Eshkawkogan has his charges up into fifth place in division one. Congratulations to: Isabella Hughson, Kallan Jones, Greyson Orford, Keannu Bisschops, Jackson Noble, Kyle Nodecker, Noah Grenier, William McComb, Jack Koehler, Jack Carter, Corbin Best, Gage Hughson, Zach Seguin, Kohyn Eshkawkogan and Zaagaasge Toulouse.
The Peewees have five points thanks to a win and three ties. The young team looks to be in position to keep improving their game and move up the ranks. Kudos to: coach Jason Hughson and players Annie Balfe, Delaney Bridgeman, Jeremy Campbell, Jordan Cheechoo, Kal Debassige, Davin Deschenes, Kohyn Eshkawkogan, Liam Gray, Cole Hughson, Elijah Locke, Jorja Peltier, Brodie Pennie, Camryn Ramsey, Cole Stack, Jared Toope, Zaagaasge Toulouse, Brandon Visitor and Lucas Wright.
On the Bantam front the squad is proud to be sporting a five and five record, into the Christmas break. Julian Wemigwans, Abigayle Huard, Riley Lockeyer, Boomer Senese, Johnny Bushey, Trent Bell, Connor Langlois, Jaden St. Georges, Kaleb Genereux, Latrell Peltier, Jacob Campbell, Damion Debassige, Nyron Panamick, Zack Guay, Cord Hughson, CJ Newbury and Ty Bonsall all guided by coach Steve Campbell.

Eagles and Colts travel to the Rainbow Volleyball Tournament
Last week the Central Manitoulin Eagles and the C. C. McLean Colts traveled to the double courts of Confederation Secondary School for the B Division Volley-Ball Championships. With 17 teams vying for the title it was a busy and competitive day of bumps, sets and spikes. Both teams were very competitive and improved over the event.
The Colts from Gore Bay were placed in very tough division against some of the best teams in the Board. The Red and Black played very well but unfortunately did not make it past the first playoff round. Mindemoya’s Eagles placed second in their pool and won their first playoff match but were stymied in the quarter-finals. Congratulations to: Jacob Wilson, Zach Gibbons, Ethan Cooper, Liam Lariviere, Carter Moggy, Noah Thorpe and Aiden McCarthy. The team wishes a speedy recovery to the injured, Liam Bridgeman.
Island elementary volleyball continues this week with the boys’ championship at the Wasse Abin High School and the girls’ tournament at L.C.P.S. in Little Current.
Off the Rock hockey
Hats off to Aurora Ominika–Enosse and her North York Storm who dropped a heart breaker on the road 3-2 to the Stoney Creek Sabres. Aurora hit the score sheet twice with a goal and a penalty!
Basketball hardware
Jaden Shawana, son of Ramona Wakegijig and Ed Shawana (one of best Panther D-man ever), brought home the silver medal at the Rainbow District School Board’s junior boys’ basketball championships. Jaden plays for the perennially strong, Churchill Public School squad. Great job, Jaden.
