Laidley to wear an “A”!

Little Current’s Michael Laidley has been honoured as a sophomore to be selected as an Assistant Captain for the Division 1, St. Lawrence University Saints of the NCAA. Michael is currently listed at 5 ft. 11 inches and weighs in at a solid 192 pounds. He is expected to have a great 2017-18 after coming off of major surgery. Good luck, Michael.

Panther Points

The Manitoulin Bantam Panthers are having a Bantam skate to fill some roster spots. Players must contact Head Coach Steve Campbell to register.

The Manitoulin Novice Panthers are having an Interest Skate on August 28 at 6 pm in Espanola. Players are asked to contact Development Director Scott Stephens to inform him of their interest.

The Atom Panthers will be attending a tournament in Richmond Hill in September and are planning exhibition games in the next few weeks. This is a team hockey fans will want to come out and watch. They are very excited to get the season started and will be bringing their best to the ice. They have been working hard all summer individually and will be working very hard as a team in the next few weeks to be ready to start their season. They are looking to compete fiercely all season in league play and in various tournaments with hopes to host the Atom B 2018 NOHA Tournament of Champions on home ice in March.

Unfortunately, due to a lack of interest in the head coaching position at the Midget division, the Manitoulin Panthers will not be icing a Midget team in 2017-18. All other Manitoulin Panther teams are beginning their season preparations with all teams starting formal dry land sessions in the next two weeks.

Summer Hockey

Kohyn Eshkawkogan has just returned from the Pro Hockey Development Group, Brick Evaluation Camp. He had a good showing and was +5 after three Blue/White games. His solid defensive play has proven he is one of the top 2008 born defensemen in Ontario. After helping his team tie the eventual Kings of the Rings tournament champions, he also helped lead his team to a Silver Consolation win in the 2008 Elite AAA division this past weekend. Kohyn had 3 points and a +6 rating in 5 games. This, along with his very smart defensive choices, showed he was one of the more dominant defenders in the tournament.

Delaney (Boogie) Bridgeman continued to hone her hockey skills which are considerable, as she attended the “Prospects” program this summer. In addition, she picked up some horse-riding abilities by spending a week in the Fierce Fillies Program at the Hidden Creek Ranch. This well-rounded athlete always works her hardest to improve in her many sports.

Baibomcowai fastball excellence  

Lyle Baibomcowai continues to turn heads around the Nation for his defensive skills behind the plate as a catcher and at the plate as a valuable batter. As part of the Sagamok Hounds he won the Spanish Fastball Tourney trophy as well as the hoisting the tournament MVP.

House league hockey calls for help!

M’Chigeeng Minor Hockey is looking for interested persons to be a part of their executive. The organization needs a vice president, secretary and treasurer. At the team level, they also require coaches, managers and trainers for all of their teams for the 2017-18 hockey season. Please contact Jeff Bebonang in M’Chigeeng.
