MANITOULIN—Manitoulin Island will be without power for four hours on Sunday, April 2 as Hydro One crews compete “critical work” to the area’s transmission stations, according the utility company.
The communities that will be without power include Bidwell, M’Chigeeng, Sandfield, Mongowin, Wikwemikong, Gordon, Carnarvon, Burpee and Mills, Little Current, Howland, Barrie Island, Assiginack, Birch Island, Tehkummah, Killarney, Allan east, Gore Bay, Curtin, Billings, Dawson/Robinson, Allan west, Zhiibaahaasing, Cockburn Island, Sheshegwaning, Central Manitoulin, Sheguiandah, Aundeck Omni Kaning, Sheguiandah First Nation and the Bay of Islands from 7:30 am until 11:30 am on Sunday, April 2.
“On April 2, Hydro One crews require a planned outage in order to complete critical work to the area’s transmission stations (TS), Manitoulin TS and Espanola TS,” Tiziana Baccega-Rosa, Hydro One media spokesperson, told The Expositor. “The work includes replacing switches and other station components.”
“In addition, local crews will be installing new equipment on a main line which runs north on Hwy 6 along with installing a few new poles and line and insulator maintenance,” she added. “All of this work will help ensure Manitoulin’s homes and businesses have the reliable power they need.”
