Henrietta McKerchie passed away on October 2, 2011. She was born on October 13, 1923 in West Bay, Manitoulin Island, Ontario, Canada. Henrietta loved to play bingo and enjoyed camping and moose hunting with her brothers and son John. She had many relatives and friends on both sides of the border. She retired over 22 years ago from War Memorial Hospital’s housekeeping department then worked for two summers passing out tourist information pamphlets on Portage Avenue enjoying the outdoor work. She moved back to West Bay “M’Chigeeng” where her two brothers and sister were living and made it her home again. Before moving back to Sault Ste. Marie, Michigan in July to be near her children. She lived for three years at the M’Chigeeng Wellness Centre Independent Living in Ontario, Canada where she was well cared for and loved by staff. She is survived by her children John Roy of West Bay, Canada and Flint Michigan, Carl McKerchie of Sault Ste. Marie, Michigan, Burton (Deb) McKerchie of San Francisco, California, Doris McKerchie of St. Ignace, Michigan, Katherine (Scott) Jewell of Sault Ste. Marie, Michigan, and Lawrence H. (Ursula) McKerchie of Brimley, Michigan. She is survived by her brother Justin (Barbara) Roy of Mesa, Arizona. She was preceded in death by her husband Lawrence L. (Honey) McKerchie, her parents John and Mary (Debassige) Roy, daughter-in-law Donna Joann Brown, grandson Jimmy Brown, and her siblings Irene Corbiere, Sylvester, Georginia, Jacob, Louise Flowler, Adam, Pius, and Christina. Visitation was Thursday, October 6, 2011 at Clark Bailey Newhouse Funeral Home, Sault Ste. Marie, Michigan from 4 pm until the time of the funeral service at 7 pm. Deacon Bill Piche officiated. Burial took place on Friday, October 7, 2011 at Hillcrest Cemetery at 11 am. Family requests that memorial contributions be made to “Hospice of the E.U.P” in Henrietta’s name. Funeral arrangements were entrusted with the Clark Bailey Newhouse Funeral Home, Sault Ste. Marie, Michigan. A memorial service will take place on Saturday, October 29, 2011 in West Bay “M’Chigeeng,” Ontario.
