Health Sciences North reaching out to patients

SUDBURY – Health Sciences North / Horizon Santé-Nord (HSN) is contacting patients and doctors following a computer system delay in the issuing of test results.

The system delay involves various diagnostic imaging tests including x-ray, ultrasound, CT scans and MRIs, performed between March 14 and April 11, 2014. Over 16,000 tests were completed in that timeframe and HSN has estimated that 2,700 patient tests may have been affected.

The delay was caused by a failure in a computerized auto-fax system which automatically sends test results to physician offices. HSN has since corrected and checked all auto-systems responsible for sending patient results to doctors. Regular audits of the systems will continue to be conducted.

HSN has notified the physicians who requested tests and couriered the results directly to their offices. HSN has also sent letters to patients informing them of the computerized system delay. Patients are asked to call their physicians if they have any concerns about their test results.

“We sincerely apologize for any stress and hardship this has caused our patients, their families and physicians,” says Joe Pilon, HSN’s Senior Vice President and Chief Operating Officer. “If you had a diagnostic test at HSN during this period, and you have questions or concerns about your results, we encourage you to contact your doctor.”

Patients who have questions about diagnostic services at HSN can call the Patient Relations Department at 705-523-7100, ext 3737.
