HAZEL ROY (NEE ASHLEY)
In loving memory of Hazel Roy (nee Ashley), 88 years of age, who passed away at the Manitoulin Health Centre, Little Current Site, on January 2, 2016. Loving wife of the late Ronald Roy of Algoma Mills, Ontario. Survived by her devoted son, Keith Ashley (Roseanne) of Little Current. Dear grandmother of Jason Ashley (Meredith) and Evan Ashley (Amanda) of Sudbury, Aaron Ashley of Shelby Township, Michigan, and Kristen Cholmondeley (Andrew) of Mount Albert, Ontario. Beloved great-grandmother of Elizabeth, Ben, Joe, and Bronwyn Ashley and Katelyn and Isla Cholmondeley. Predeceased by her great-granddaughter Emerson Dove Cholmondeley. After her marriage to Ron in mid-life, Hazel also came to have warm relationships with his children Julie MacDonnell and Gary Roy (both predeceased) and became a loved grandmother to their children, who she thought of as her own. She will be warmly remembered by Patrick MacDonnell (Korrine) of Toronto, Kirsten MacDonnell of The Hague, Netherlands, Nancy Jo Demers (Roger), Sandra Roy, and Megan Dumais (Andre) all of Sudbury and Tracy Roy of Hastings, Ontario, and their families. Also survived by nieces Martha Storey of Ladner, BC, Janet Ashley of Sudbury, and Pamela Banks of Sudbury, who was steadfast in her thoughtfulness and moral support to the end. Pam was truly a loyal and trusted friend to Hazel as well as a cherished niece. Hazel was predeceased over the years by all of her sisters and brothers: Alfred Jr., Roy, Jimmy, Ivan (Jackie), Joe, Thelma, Annie, Lena “Bubbles” Banks (George), Don (Helen), as well as her nephew James Banks. Hazel was a hairdresser who, at a very young age, became the sole support to her father (Alfred), her sister (Thelma), and her brother (Joe), while raising her son Keith. She remained a family caregiver throughout much of her life and will be remembered with gratitude, respect, and affection for all the support she gave to them and many others over the years. A private family memorial will follow according to Hazel’s wishes. In lieu of flowers, donations to the Lung Association would be appreciated. Arrangements entrusted to the Lougheed Funeral Home.
