It is with great sadness that the family announces the peaceful passing of Harold Nahwegahbow after a courageous battle with cancer, surrounded by his family at the Sudbury Regional Hospital on Thursday, June 16, 2011 at the age of 59 years. Dear son of Clarence and Marjorie (nee Pitawanakwat) Nahwegahbow (both predeceased). Beloved spouse of Brenda Burnett of Sudbury. Cherished father of Carrie-Lynn (Dan) of Nobel, Pamela (Justin) of Hamilton, Michael (Tamara) of Sudbury and Angela (Kevin) of Sioux Lookout. Proud Mish of Hayden, Rory and Liam. Special “Dad” to Chiiko and Trouble at home. Loving big brother of Valerie, Teresa (Don), Karen (Brian), Peter (Kristine), Jamie (Carrie), Reggie (Sherry), Sheri (Mike) and Larry (Emma). Sadly missed by many nieces, nephews, aunts, uncles, cousins, and by his best friend of many years Ray Morin (Linda). Harold will always be remembered by his family as a comedian and as a devoted dad, standing by his family no matter what the cost. He was so proud to be a grandfather to his three young grandchildren. Harold worked at the Copper Cliff refinery, retiring in 2004. He was also an avid Montreal Canadiens fan and enjoyed the music of the Beatles. In recent years, dad began playing the guitar and cross country skiing. He embraced his Native culture, and attended many powwows on the Manitoulin Island. To remember the man and to celebrate his life, family and friends gathered on Saturday, June 18, 2011 from 2-4 and 7-9 pm at Island Funeral Home. Funeral Mass was at 1 pm on Monday, June 20, 2011 at St. Bernard’s Catholic Church, Little Current. Donations to Northern Cancer Research or to the 4th Floor Palliative Care Unit at the Sudbury Regional Hospital would be appreciated by the family.
