GORE BAY—The Dan Marois and Scott McDougall team has won the 35th annual Curffle event, held at the Gore Bay Curling Club this past weekend.
“I would like to thank Scott for allowing me to be his partner for curffle the last three years,” said Mr. Marois. “I know I am not as good as Karen (Mr. McDougall’s wife), but I try,” he quipped.
The Marois\McDougall team defeated the team of Dan Forrest and Terry McNeeley in the first event final.
The second event saw the husband-wife team of Sherri and Gord Loutitt defeat the Patti Purvis and Nancy Noble team in the final. “Thank you for a great weekend,” said Ms. Loutitt. “It is a blast to come to this event every year. We would like to thank the Clarks (Hye, Holly, Bill, Peggy) for putting this event on every year. We all appreciate that you continue to organize this event.”
“This event is spectacular,” said Ms. Loutitt. She pointed out curffle is the biggest fundraiser for the Gore Bay Curling Club each year. She acknowledged all those who had a part in putting the event on this year.
In the third event, the husband-wife team of Dan and Lori Clark took first place, defeating the Selena Bentley and Holly Clark team in the final.

Hye and Holly Clark were hosts for the awards ceremony. “We would like to thank everyone for showing up this weekend,” said Mr. Clark. “As is tradition we will ask each of you to turn to your left and then turn to your right and shake the hand of the person beside you, because it is you that make curffle what it is.”
Mr. Clark thanked his sister Holly for being one of the main organizers of the event, with their father Bill Clark doing the draw of games for the weekend, which included 32 teams.
“We would like to say thank you to everyone for participating,” said Ms. Clark, noting this year marked the 35th year of curffle. “There has been a lot of good times over the years, and many repeat players every year along with new players. Thank you to Dan (Marois) for working the bar along with helpers, members of the Strain family, Heather, Lyle and Rebecca who ran the kitchen, the ice-keepers for maintaining the ice, Jill Patterson for providing the wine for prizes, (designated drivers) Curtis Beckon and Carmen Runnalls for getting everyone home safely.”

Island musician Cole Hughson provided live musical entertainment Saturday evening, which was a great add on to the weekend, said Ms. Clark.
“Each year we acknowledge and raise a glass to all those people who have curffled and are no longer with us,” said Ms. Clark, noting that over the past year the list of those who have passed on includes Cam Clark, Kevin Bushey, Valinda Fogal, Rick Campbell and Jane Pummell.
