“GRANNY” ANGELINE ALBERTINA PITAWANAKWAT “AAZHEN”

Angeline passed away peacefully at the Manitoulin Health Centre at the age of 87 surrounded by her loving family and friends. Loving mother of Priscilla McGregor (friend Art) of Birch Island, Rose Peltier (husband Clifford) of Wikwemikong, Alphonse Pitawanakwat of Wikwemikong, Henrietta Dokum of North Carolina, Henry Pitawanakwat of Wikwemikong and Narcissus (predeceased). Special mother of Martina Pitawanakwat (friend Mike Jon) of Wikwemikong. Loving daughter of Flora and Joe Peter “Zhimnankwat” Pangowish both predeceased. Loving sister of Alphonse, James, Joe, Lawrence, Theresa Debassige, all predeceased, surviving sister Rebecca McGregor of Birch Island. Sister-in-law of Amelia Kimewon, Georgina McGregor, Jean, Sarah, Remie, Dan, Moses, and Fred, all predeceased. Surviving sister-in-law Dorothy Peltier of Wikwemikong. Sadly missed by 28 grandchildren, 69 great-grandchildren, 14 great-great-grandchildren and many nieces, nephews, and godchildren. Granny enjoyed making quill boxes and other birch work, she harvested and utilized her own material. She loved going berry picking and made her own jams and pickling. Granny was also well known for her infamous blood sausage. She also enjoyed playing cards, playing bingo, cooking and going to church. She loved being surrounded by her family and friends. Resting at St. Ignatius Church, Buzwah. Friends may call Wednesday, July 9, 2014 after 2 pm. Funeral Mass in Holy Cross Mission, Wikwemikong on Friday, July 11, 2014 at 11 am. Interment in the Buzwah Cemetery.
