TEHKUMMAH—Tehkummah Reeve Gary Brown said he’s “pretty happy with the way things are going” regarding the reconstruction of the Government Road bridge that crosses the Manitou River on Michael’s Bay Road. “We’re still on schedule.” The surface has been removed and the abutments are in place, explained Mr. Brown. “There’s going to be a meeting this week with the engineer. We’ll know more then.” August 31 is the estimated end date of construction.
There is a second deck in place under the bridge to prevent any materials or debris from falling into the Manitou River. A pedestrian walkway is in place to cross the river that can also be used by cyclists. The grade is a bit steep on the Michael’s Bay Road end, and there is some concern about lack of lighting at night, but it is functional.
Tehkummah Councillor Lydia Mckenna, who lives in Michael’s Bay, said “it’s a bit of a challenge, but it’s not too bad. The (construction crew) guys are all very polite and helpful. You can set your clocks by them. Every morning, Monday to Friday, they’re starting up at 6:30, 7:00 o’clock.” Ms. McKenna helped make arrangements for weekly garbage pick at the walkway.
“There are no needs that are not being taken care of,” said Mr. Brown.
