GORE BAY—The Gore Bay/Gordon volunteer fire department has a new fire chief.
At a Gore Bay council meeting last week, Mayor Ron Lane informed council, “As you can see by our committee minutes, Mike Addison was the successful candidate for the fire chief position.”
Councillor Lou Addison explained, “we interviewed two candidates and they were both very good. Mike, in our opinion, was the stronger candidate and has more experience and he is here in town on a permanent basis.”
In an October council meeting, it was announced that Mike Steele was resigning as fire chief, although he would stay on until a new fire chief was appointed so there would be no gap in services. Council passed a resolution at that meeting accepting Mr. Steele’s notice of retirement, with regrets.
“I would recommend we send a letter to both of them in appreciation of their volunteering efforts,” said Councillor Jack Clark.
“We definitely should send a letter to Mike (Steele) for all his years as the fire chief,” added Ms. Addison.
