Gore Bay sets service, building rental rates

GORE BAY—New rates for various services such as building and arena use and rentals were agreed to by Gore Bay council.

“The general government committee has recommended changes to rates for various things in town,” said Gore Bay Mayor Dan Osborne at a council meeting last week.

Council approved a recommendation made by its general government committee to enact the following rates: Tax certificates—increased from $25 to $30 plus a new rate of $50 for a request needed within 24 hours; water/sewer certificates—increased from $15 to $20, plus a new rate of $40 for a certificate required within 24 hours; wood waste—the half ton load charge increased from $10 to $20; dump truck increased from $20 to $50. It was also agreed that signage needs to be erected outlining the process and rules for using the site.

Arena rates are increased two percent, rounded up for all rates; chair rentals from the town hall will increase from $1.50 to $2.00 each; round table rentals at the hall will now be $12 each; rectangular tables will be $10 each (unchanged). Community hall rates are up two percent, rounded up for all rates.

For rental of the council chambers or committee room there will be an increase of two percent, from $85 to $87 per day. As well, (marina) dockage rates will increase by two percent, rounded up for all rates. Use of the medical centre—Contact North remains free; for Open Hands there is a two percent increase from $50 to $51 per day.
